Alongside spiritual activities, sporting and healthy ones, Umbria is rich in folk events of cities and small villages, where ancient and tenacious traditions blend with modern artistic and cultural events. In these folk festivals you can find echoes of pagan religion, Christian devotion, aspects dating back to the communal era and new elements typical of our times.
Such festivals are a concrete testimony of the history and customs of the Umbrian peoples and proof of the identity and vitality of each place. On feast days the local population rediscovers its origins and traditions, meeting visitors to whom it can show its customs.
Every month in Umbria events, musical and theatrical shows, festivals, concerts, and exhibitions follow one another, going beyond regional borders and sometimes even national ones. These celebrations, in their simplicity, are hugely successful.
Some of them are: the Corsa dei Ceri, a religious-popular event held in Gubbio; the Festival of the Two Worlds in Spoleto, which takes place in June with drama, dance, concerts, exhibitions and films; Umbria Jazz in Perugia, where for ten days concerts by the world’s most famous jazz artists follow one another; the Todi Festival, a showcase of drama, music, ballets, films and cultural meetings in the charm of the small Umbrian village.
In February, in Terni the Valentine Events take place in honor of the Patron Saint of the City of Terni and Protector of Lovers. In the Valentine month the city celebrates, bursting into a multitude of cultural and religious activities under the sign of love in its many shades.
