After the beheading of Saint Valentine, in the place where he was buried there originally developed a cemetery of pagan origin and later Christian. Many were the people who after their death wished to be buried near the Saint’s burial place.

Next to the cemetery a small church was built for the worship of Saint Valentine as early as the 3rd century, later enlarged and destroyed over the centuries, until reaching the present building where today it is possible to pray before the urn of Saint Valentine.

Currently, inside the small Museum, a small part of the original masonry of the cemetery can be seen. The exact location of the cemetery is between the current Basilica and the original convent of Saint Valentine now owned by the Municipality of Terni. This area is opened to pilgrims and visitors on the occasion of visits to the Basilica.
